How to
Get the Legendaries
General Catching tips:
In order to have the highest chance of catching a legendary Pokemon, here's
what you should do:
*Get the legendary as close to 1 HP as possible (using False Swipe
is a good idea).
*Put it to sleep. Sleep is the best status to induce on an opponent
since it gives you a higher chance of catching the Pokemon than Paralysis.
Of course, you don't want to induce Poison or Burn since the damage will
knock it out.
*Wait 30+ turns, then use Timer Balls. Timer Balls are twice as
strong as Ultra Balls after at least 30 turns have passed.
Of course, you may get lucky and catch a legendary with only a Poke Ball.
It can happen. And of course, you are given one Master Ball per game.
It's best to save this for the Wandering Legends (like Latios) and not
Stationary Legends (like Kyogre).
Whatever you decide to do, this guide will provide you with locations
and strategies for catching all of the legendary Pokemon in the games.
Contents:
Stationary: Kyogre, Groudon,

How to get Kyogre
Sapphire - Cave of Origin
Once you have awakened Kyogre in the Seafloor Cavern, it will flee
to the Cave of Origin in Sootopolis City. You have to go down a couple
levels in the cave before you actually reach it. Since the cave is dark,
a Pokemon with Flash would be handy, but it's not necessary.
Kyogre is found at Lv. 45 and knows Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, Body Slam,
and Calm Mind.
Emerald - Marine Cave
You'll have to beat the Elite 4 first to get Kyogre in Emerald.
Once you do, head over to the Weather Institute, go up to the second
floor, and talk to the scientist on the far left end. He'll tell you
about heavy rain occuring on a certain route. Go to that route and look
for a diving spot. Use Dive and look for a cave entrance. This will
take you to Marine Cave and you can battle a Lv. 70 Kyogre.
How to get Groudon
Ruby - Cave of Origin
Same as you would catch Kyogre. After it awakens from the
Seafloor Cavern, you'll find it in the Cave of Origin in Sootopolis
City.
Groudon is found at Lv. 45 and knows Fire Blast, Earthquake, Slash,
and Bulk Up.
Emerald - Terra Cave
Like you would with Kyogre, talk to the scientist in the Weather Institute
and he'll tell you about a route that is experiencing a drought. Travel
to that route, enter a cave, and you'll get to fight a Lv. 70 Groudon.

How to get Rayquaza
Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
- Sky Tower
After beating the Elite 4, the Sky Tower will open. Before starting,
make sure you have a Mach Bike. Then, Fly to Pacifidlog Town and Surf
eastwards, staying near the upper part of the screen. You will soon
see an opening that allows you to go through. After that you'll encounter
some land and a cave with nothing in it. Pass through the cave and on
the other side, you'll see an entrance to a tall tower. The tower is
5 stories tall and a couple floors have cracked tiles. You'll need to
do some fancy maneuvering with the Mach Bike to get around these tiles
without falling through. Rayquaza lies sleeping at the very top of the
tower.
It is at Lv. 70 with Fly, Extremespeed, Rest, and Outrage.

How to get Mewtwo
Fire Red/Leaf Green
- Cerulean Cave
Before you attempt to catch Mewtwo, bring a Pokemon that knows Surf.
Then go into the cave and once you're in the water, surf all the way
to the end of the path (don't go up any of the stairs). Go onto the
land again, go up the steps, head right, then up, then left, then go
down the steps, head right and up another set of steps, and go up the
ladder.
You'll now be on B1, which is like a rocky maze. Head left until you
come across a fork in the path, then go down, right, down, right, down,
and right. Then go all the way up until you can't go farther and finally,
go all the way to the left and down the ladders.
Go down the next set of ladders below you and you be on B2. From here,
follow the straightforward path all the way toward Mewtwo, who is on
an island at the very end.
It is at Lv. 70 and knows Psychic, Mist, Future Sight, and Psych Up.

How to get Lugia and Ho-oh
Both of these birds are available in the GBA games, but unfortunately,
you need to go to a Nintendo event to legally reach them. At the event,
you can download the Mystic Ticket which allows you to go to Navel Rock
where these two Pokemon are located.
Enter the single cave on Navel Rock and when the path splits, go
left and up the stairs to reach Ho-oh (Lv. 70). Go right and down the
stairs to reach Lugia (Lv. 70).
Ho-oh in Colosseum
Ho-oh is available in Colosseum for the Gamecube, but first you
have to purify all 48 Shadow Pokémon found in Story Mode. Then
you have to register a team of 6 Pokemon from Story Mode and enter Battle
Mountain in Battle Mode (either 1vs1 or 2vs2). Beat all 100 trainers
and Ho-oh will appear. It will be sent to your PC and is at Lv. 70.
Lugia in XD
Lugia is the star of Pokemon XD for the Gamecube, but it is found
in its Shadow Form. It can be captured at Citidark Isle when you fight
Grand Master Greevil. Remember to save your Master Ball in order to
catch it easily. To purify it, you have to go to the Purification Chamber
and fill all 9 circles to the max. When purified, it will know Psycho
Boost, Earthquake, Hydro Pump, and Featherdance. It can now be transferred
to the GBA.

How to get Palkia/Dialga
Diamond/Pearl -
Spear Pillar
You can't miss these two legends because they're part of the storyline.
Palkia only appears in Pearl and Dialga only appears in Diamond. You
battle them right after you battle the Team Galactic leader. Both start
at Lv. 47. In order to get the other one, you need to trade for them.
However, you can still see them in the game. After your battle with
Dialga or Palkia, go to Celestic Town and talk to an old woman in one
of the house. She'll show you a picture of Palkia if you're playing
Diamond and Dialga if you're playing Pearl. This gets their info in
your Pokedex so you can search for them on the GTS if you want.
How to get Giratina
Diamond/Pearl -
Turnback Cave
You need the National Dex before you can catch Giratina. Once
you do, head down to Route 214 and find an area to the left called Spring
Path. Enter it and go through the grass to the right, then Rock Climb
up the wall to Sendback Spring. Head around the lake and Rock Climb
down to the cave entrance and enter it.
This is a rather confusing cave and it's also foggy, so Defog may help.
You have to reach Giratina before you have passed 30 rooms. Also,
be sure to keep track of the pillars. If you read them, they will tell
you 2 numbers. The first number is how many pillars you've seen and
the second is how many rooms you've passed. Once you've seen 3 pillars,
the next door will always lead to Giratina.
Giratina is at Lv. 70 and knows Slash, Earth Power, Shadow Force, and
Heal Block.
How to get Heatran
Diamond/Pearl
- Stark Mountain
Stark Mountain is the volcanic region north of the Survival Area/Resort
Area. It is a huge cave area and has some of the strongest wild Pokemon
in the game. Be sure to bring Pokemon that know Rock Smash, Strength,
and Rock Climb with you.
Climb up the side of the mountain and enter. Smash the rock and use
Strength to push the boulder down the stairs. Go left and push the top
and bottom boulders to the left. Push the middle boulder upwards and
pass through. Get on the ledge and make your way to the top, using Rock
Smash and Strength as you go along. You'll meet your Rival there. In
the next area, you'll meet a trainer named Buck who will partner up
with you for a short time. When Buck is with you, your Pokemon will
be restored to full health after every battle. But you'll be unable
to use Rock Climb until he leaves. Your goal now is to reach the north
end of the cave. When you get to the wall at the very north, find an
entrance to a small room and enter it. Buck will take a Magma Stone
from the room and leave.
Now get out of the cave and Fly to the Survival Area. Buck is in the
house next to the PokeCenter. Talk to him and he'll say he'll put the
Magma Stone back where he found it.
Go back to Stark Mountain and make your way to the back room again to
find Heatran. It will be at Lv. 70 and know Lava Plume, Iron Head, Fire
Spin, and Scary Face.
How to get Regigigas
Diamond/Pearl -
Snowpoint Temple
In order to catch Regigigas, you need Regirock, Registeel, and Regice
in your team, as well as the National Dex. Bringing a Pokemon with Rock
Smash is also recommended. Then head to Snowpoint City and go north
to the temple. If you meet the requirements, Candice will come and allow
the guard to let you pass.
The temple has 6 floors with wild Pokemon over Lv. 50. Go past the
1st floor and down the stairs to the 2nd. Slide past the ice, get the
Calcium, and go down to the 3rd floor. Use Rock Smash on the rocks and
go on to the 4th floor.
Here is a little ice puzzle. First, slide down on ice tile that's second
from the left. Then go left, up, right, and up to the stairs to the
5th floor. This floor just has some rocks and a Nevermeltice. Go down
to the 6th floor and you'll see Regigigas in the middle of some ice.
To reach it, head to the second ice tile to the left of the stairs.
Go down and you'll reach a patch of bare floor. Go down again, then
right, up, left, down, and right.
Regigigas appears at Lv. 70 and has Confuse Ray, Stomp, Superpower,
and Zen Headbutt. Note that it has the Slow Start ability, so it's not
hard to battle since its Attack and Speed will be cut in half for the
first five turns.
How to get Azelf/Uxie
Diamond/Pearl only
These Pokemon are only available after you've fought Dialga/Palkia.
Azelf is found in the cave in the middle of Lake Valor, southwest of
Veilstone City. It's at Lv. 50 and knows Confusion, Uproar, Future Sight,
and Nasty Plot.
Uxie is found in the cave in the middle of Lake Acuity, west of Snowpoint
City. It's at Lv. 50 and knows Confusion, Yawn, Future Sight, and Amnesia.
Mesprit is a wandering Pokemon, so check the next section to see how
to catch it.
How to get Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres
Fire Red/Leaf Green
only
Articuno - Seafoam Islands
You need a Pokemon that knows Surf.
From Fuschia City, go on the water and Surf until you reach the
entrance to Seafoam Islands. Enter the cave and go down the ladders
until you reach Level 4. When you reach that Level, Surf on the water
and you'll be taken by the current to Level 5. Once there, head up the
steps onto land and go around the corner until you reach another ladder.
Go up the ladder, up the stairs, ignore the next ladder, and go down
the stairs until you reach some boulders. Two of the boulders will be
above you, so push the one on the RIGHT up two spaces and push the one
on the left down once and left once. There's another boulder above it,
so push that one away one space left. Then go back to the other boulder
and push it left twice and down into the hole. Then simply push the
last boulder into the hole and fall down along with it.
Those two boulders will stop the current, allowing you to Surf onto
the ledge where Articuno is.
It will be at Lv. 50 and know Mist, Agility, Mind Reader, and Ice Beam.
Zapdos - Power Plant
Simply follow the rather linear path all the way to the end of the
power plant to reach Zapdos. It will be at Lv. 50 and know Detect, Agility,
Drill Peck, and Thunder Wave.
Moltres - One Island
You need a Pokemon that knows Surf, Strength, and Rock Smash.
Moltres made a move from its original location in Victory Road to
its new home on Mt. Ember in One Island.
Surf north of the Pokemon Center until you reach Ember Spa. If you
haven't gotten Rock Smash, you can get it in there. Then exit and Surf
some more to the north until you reach the outside of Mt. Ember. Go
up and take a left, moving any boulders away with Strength. Go up the
steps, smash any rocks blocking your path, and go up some more stairs
and into the cave. Follow the path and go up a ladder. In the next level,
go past the stairs and turn right into the next room. Head out
the cave, take a left and go up the mountain until you the top and a
boulder puzzle. Move the right boulder up, the left one left, then go
up and move the next one left. Move the last one up and two spaces right.
Now you can battle Moltres.
It will be at Lv. 50 and know Endure, Agility, Fire Spin, and Flamethrower.

How to get Regirock, Regice, and Registeel
What you need: Wailord, Relicanth, Pokemon that know
Surf, Dive, Dig, Strength, and Fly
-Relicanth is found by diving under Sootopolis City. It's pretty rare.
-Wailord is found by fishing with Super Rod on Route 129 or you can
Level Wailmer to Lv. 40 to evolve.
Fly to Pacidflog Town and Surf west towards the fast moving currents.
Stay towards the bottom of the screen then go into the current. It will
carry you forward and drop you off at an island surrounding by rocks.
Go into the currents again and you'll then stop at a small pool of Surfable
water surrounded by shallow water. Go towards the bottom and start Surfing
again. You be carried past a ring of small rocks and stop at another
body of Surfable water. Go forward and a short distance away, you'll
stop at some shallow water with some rocks around. Go forward once more
and you'll come to another patch of shallow water. Finally, go forward
and you'll be taken to a small Dive spot.
Dive down, enter the cave, and go towards a rock with a bunch of dots
written on it. This is the Braille language and translated, it says
"GO UP HERE." So without moving, select Dive again and you'll resurface.
You'll end up in another cave. There's some more Braille in the back
of the cave that tells you to "DIG HERE." Select Dig and you'll be transported
to another room. There are six rocks here, each with Braille. They tell
a story and this is what they say:
IN THIS CAVE WE HAVE LIVED. WE OWE ALL TO THE POKEMON.
BUT, WE SEALED THE POKEMON AWAY. WE FEARED IT.
THOSE WITH COURAGE, THOSE WITH HOPE. OPEN A DOOR. AN ETERNAL POKEMON
WAITS.
There's another rock in the the back. Go up to it and if you are playing
Ruby/Sapphire,
it will say "FIRST COMES RELICANTH. LAST COMES WAILORD." If you are
playing Emerald, it will say "FIRST
COMES WAILORD. LAST COMES RELICANTH." Do what the text says and move
Wailord and Relicanth to the correct spots in your team. Do this correctly
and a small earthquake will happen. You'll here what sounds like three
doors opening. Congrats, you can now access each of the Regis!
Regirock
Go to the Desert that's above Mauville City. There's a large rock
near the bottom of the desert that you can enter.
If you are playing Ruby/Sapphire,
it will say "Right, right, down, down. Then, use Strength."
If you are playing Emerald, it
will say"Left, left, down, down. Then, use Rock Smash."
Do this and it should open a door. Go through the door to battle Regirock,
who will be at Lv. 40 and know Ancientpower, Curse, Superpower, and
Rock Throw.
Regice
Fly to Dewford and Surf north. Stay near the left side and you should
notice a large rock surrounded by a ring of rocks. Enter, read the Braille,
and follow the instructions.
If you are playing Ruby/Sapphire,
it will say "Stop and wait. Wait for time to pass twice."
Just don't do anything for about two minutes and eventually a door will
appear.
If you are playing Emerald, it
will say"Stay close to the wall. Run around the lap."
Go towards a wall and run around for one lap (it doesn't matter which
way). Finish your lap and a door will appear.
Go through the door to battle Regice, who will be at Lv. 40 and know
Ancientpower, Curse, Superpower, and Icy Wind.
Registeel
Fly to Lilycove and travel west along Route 120. Keep going until you
reach some steps. Go up these steps, walk through the tall grass, and
enter a cave. Read the Braille and follow the instructions.
If you are playing Ruby/Sapphire,
it will say "With new time, hope and love, aim to the sky in the middle."
Go towards the middle of the room and use Fly. A door will open.
If you are playing Emerald, it
will say"Those who inherit our will, shine in the middle."
Go towards the middle of the room and use Flash. A door will open.
Go through the door to battle Registeel, who will be at Lv. 40 and know
Ancientpower, Curse, Superpower, and Metal Claw.
Wandering

How to get Latios and Latias
After beating the Elite 4 and winding back up in your house, your mother
will tell you to watch the TV for a news bulletin. The news will say
that there is a mysterious Pokemon flying around Hoenn. In Ruby,
it will be Red. In Sapphire, it
will be Blue. And in Emerald, it
will be BZZT colored (you get to choose whether it's Red or Blue). Red
means Latias and Blue means Latios.
Latios and Latias will run away the first turn you encounter it. If
you encounter them and they run away, you can keep track of their location
using their Pokedex entry. When you move to a different location, they
will move to an adjacent route (this includes water routes). If you
hit or status them, they will still retain their damage and status after
they run.
To prepare for catching a Lati, you only need one item - a Master Ball
to catch it as soon as you find it. Did you already use your Master
Ball? Tough. Your next best option is to get a fast Pokemon with Mean
Look/Sleep move or a Wobbuffet to trap the legendary dragon.
Finding Latios/Latias for the first time is the hard part and takes
a lot of luck. Your best bet is to Fly to a city, enter an adjacent
route and walk around in the grass, seeing if the Lati is there. If
you don't want to fight the other wild Pokemon, you can use Repel so
that only the Lati will appear. If you can't find it after while, Fly
back to the same city and try again.
Once you do find it, throw your Master Ball or trap/sleep it. Then catch
it like you would a normal legendary.
Getting the other one
Once you catch Latios or Latias, you can still get the second part of
the pair in the same game. But you will need an Eon Ticket, which allows
you to access Southern Island. It comes in a special e-Reader card,
which can be scanned into the game with an e-Reader device. You can
get this card at a Nintendo promotion (which means it's not available
in-game). Such promotions have happened during 2003 and 2004, and Eon
Tickets have also been given in an issue of Nintendo Power magazine.
Eon Tickets can be transferred to other games by mixing records, so
as long as you find another person who already has the Eon Ticket, you
can mix records with that person to obtain it.
Once you get to the island, Latios/Latias will be waiting. It won't
run away so you can fight it like a normal legendary. But like any other
legendary, you only get one chance to catch it.

How to get Raikou, Entei, and Suicune
Fire Red/Leaf
Green only
You can get Raikou, Entei, and Suicune the same way you get the Latis,
but there's a catch (pun not intended). You can only get one legendary
beast per game depending on what Pokemon you chose as a starter.
If you chose Bulbasaur, Entei will appear.
If you chose Charmander, Suicune will appear.
If you chose Squirtle, Raikou will appear.
The legendary beasts will only appear in the grassy areas of Kanto.
They will NOT appear anywhere in the Sevii Islands.
When you find them, they will be at Lv. 50. Watch out for Raikou and
Entei though. Those two will know Roar and will use it to scare your
Pokemon away if you try to trap them. Since you can only catch one legendary
beast per game, it's best just to use your Master Ball on them.

How to get Mesprit
Mesprit is found in the cave in the middle of Lake Verity, near Twinleaf
Town. When you try to battle it, it will run away. Catching Mesprit
is a lot easier than the Latis or legendary beasts since Mesprit will
already beregistered on the map function of your PokeEtch. Mesprit will
appear in the grass on a route and move to an adjacent route every time
you change locations. Use the techniques mentioned in the Latis section
to help you catch Mesprit.
How to get Cresselia
Diamond/Pearl
- Full Moon Island
To catch Cresselia, first go to Canalave City and enter the
house with a sick boy. Talk to them, then go outside and talk to the
sailor that normally takes you to Iron Island. He'll ask you to go to
Full Moon Island and get the Lunar Wing. Enter the little forest on
that island and you'll find Cresselia. Talk to her and she will disappear,
leaving behind the Lunar Wing. Cresselia is like Mesprit in that she
will travel around random routes across the map, so use the same techinques
you would use to catch Mesprit and other wandering legends.
Unobtainable (Event Only)
How to get Deoxys
Emerald/Fire
Red/Leaf Green
To catch Deoxys legally, you need to bring your copy of FR/LG/E to a Nintendo
event and download an Aurora Ticket, which allows you access to Birth
Island.
On Birth Island, there is a single gray triangle on the ground. Go
up to it and touch it by pressing A (do not walk into it, or you'll
mess up and have to start over again). It will move and the goal is
to touch the side closest to you each time the triangle moves. If you
have done this successfully, the triangle will eventualy move back to
the middle and glow red. Touch it once more and Deoxys will appear.
Deoxys is always at Lv. 30 when you encounter it, but its form is different
in each game. In Fire Red, it's
in the Attack Form, so make sure you don't hit it with anything except
False Swipe because its defenses are extremely low.
In Leaf Green, it's in the Defense
Form. It can take hits a lot better, but make sure your Pokemon aren't
overpowered because it's still at a low level.
In Emerald, Deoxys will be in its
Speed form and when traded to Ruby/Sapphire,
it will turn into Normal form.
Diamond/Pearl - Deoxys can be imported from your GBA game. You can change their form to whatever you want by going to Veilstone City and inspecting the meteorites.
*Gamestop, June 2008 - Deoxys will be distributed at Gamestop across the USA on June 20-22 and June 27-29 for the

How to get Mew, Celebi, and Jirachi
You can't get these rare Psychic types anywhere in the game and
must go to a special Nintendo event to recieve one. There have been
several events and methods of getting these two in the past.
Mew
*Toys R US, Sept. 30, 2006 - Bring any copy of Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/Leaf
Green/Fire Red to a Toys R Us
to get a Mew sent directly to your game.
*Emerald only - Mew could be caught
by downloading the Old Sea Map from a Nintendo event, allowing you to
go to Faraway Island. There you have to chase Mew in the tall grass
until you can corner it and battle it.
Celebi
*Japanese Colosseum only - People who preordered Colosseum in
Japan received a bonus disc where they can get Celebi. In the English
version, Celebi was replaced by Jirachi.
*Journey Across America - In 2006, Nintendo held a tour across
the US where people could download many rare Pokemon, including Celebi.
Jirachi
*Colosseum - Those who preordered Colosseum received a bonus
disc where they can get Jirachi.
*Pokemon Channel - In the European and Austrailian versions only,
people who get Pokemon Channel can download Jirachi after beating the
game.
Further events to get these three will be recorded on the list.
How to get Darkrai
To catch Darkrai, you need a Member's Card from a Nintendo Event.
*10th Movie Promo - Darkrai was given out during the promotion of the tenth Pokemon movie
in Japan. These Darkrais are special because they know Spacial Rend
and Roar of Time, are caught in a Cherish Ball, and came holding an Enigma Berry.
*Toys R Us, May 31st - June 1st, 2008 - Darkrai was given out at Toys R Us in the USA. They had the same special features as the Japanese Darkrais.
How to get Shaymin
To catch Shaymin, you need Oak's Letter from a Nintendo Event, which
has not been given out yet. That means any Shaymin you see are not entirely
legit.

How to get Arceus
To catch Arceus, you need the Azure Flute from a Nintendo Event,
which has not been given out yet. That means any Arceus you see are
not entirely legit.

How to get Manaphy
To obtain a Manaphy egg, complete the Pokemon Ranger game to unlock
the Ranger Net feature. On the main page of Ranger Net, access Password
mode by pressing L, R, Y, X, A, B and Left on the D-Pad at the same
time. Then enter the Manaphy code: P8M2-9D6F-43H7.
Manaphy was also given out at a Toys 'R Us event.
